The Natural Choice

The clients had a generously sized kitchen, but its narrow footprint and outdated fittings left it feeling closed in and lacking character. Their vision was for a calm, inviting space where they could enjoy quiet dinners or host informal gatherings with friends – a kitchen that felt both functional and relaxed.

To keep the space feeling open and airy, I opted for light tones on the walls and work surfaces, and replaced much of the traditional wall cabinetry with open shelving. While this reduced the upper storage, I balanced it by introducing floor-to-ceiling units placed near the entrance. This not only maximised functionality but also created a subtle visual trick – making the room feel as though it opens out the further in you go.

The material palette is natural and understated. The worktops are finished in a marble-look white quartz for a clean but soft appearance, paired with natural wood cabinetry, shelving, and flooring for warmth and texture. The walls are painted in a creamy off-white, complemented by pale green tiles along the backsplash – a gentle nod to nature. This soft green is echoed throughout the room in potted herb plants and botanical artwork, tying the scheme together and adding to the sense of quiet, everyday ease.
