A Soothing Soak
The client’s existing layout featured a utility room that led directly into the home’s only bathroom – an arrangement that felt far from ideal, particularly as they often welcome friends and family into their home. Guests had to pass through a practical but cluttered space to reach a dated bathroom, which didn’t reflect the calm, considered atmosphere the clients hoped to create.
The brief was to transform both spaces – turning the utility into something streamlined and presentable, and reimagining the bathroom as a serene, spa-like retreat. One of the client's key requests was to separate the toilet from the washing area. To achieve this, I reconfigured the layout by relocating one of the windows and extending the footprint of the bathroom. This allowed for the introduction of a dividing wall to discreetly screen the toilet, while also making space for a generous double vanity, a freestanding bath, and a separate shower – combining comfort and practicality with a sense of luxury.
The utility room was also carefully rethought, with all appliances now hidden behind full-height cabinetry to create a calm, uncluttered feel. Additional storage was incorporated for coats and shoes, along with a built-in bench – adding both function and a welcoming place to pause when entering the space.
Both rooms are now united by a soft, cohesive palette of gentle greens, grounded by a rich green tiled floor that runs seamlessly between them. Natural wood elements add warmth and texture, while black taps and basins introduce a bold, modern contrast. The result is a harmonious blend of form and function – a stylish, tranquil space the owners are proud to share with their guests.
